Josh Garcia – Head Coach

Josh Garcia enters his fourth year as the head coach at Brophy College Preparatory. Garcia took over the baseball program from Tom Succow who spent forty years as Brophy’s head coach. In Garcia’s short time at Brophy, ten players have moved on to play college baseball. In Garcia’s first year, the Broncos made a top-six finish in the 6A  state playoffs, losing in the quarter finals. In year two, the Broncos finished second in the Premier Region Conference behind 2019 6A State Champions Chandler Hamilton. In  year three the Broncos were 3-1 in AIA Power Point games before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Garcia came to Brophy after serving as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at South Mountain Community College for two years. In Garcia’s two years at South Mountain, his recruiting classes produced twenty-three D1 players.

From 2012-2013, and returning again in 2015, Garcia served as an assistant coach at the University of Arizona under Hall of Fame coach Andy Lopez. In 2012, Garcia was part of Arizona’s fourth National Championship. In Garcia’s final year at Arizona, he coached Pittsburgh Pirates first-rounder Kevin Newman, Philadelphia Phillies second-rounder Scott Kingery, and Boston Red Sox fourth-rounder and top prospect, Bobby Dalbec.

In 2014 Garcia served as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for Yavapai College in Prescott. Garcia’s first and only recruiting class reached the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. After one year at Yavapai, Garcia returned to Arizona as a full time assistant for Andy Lopez’ final year before his retirement.

Garcia is a Phoenix native, graduating from Brophy in 2007. Garcia was an integral part of Brophy’s 2006 state championship team and the 2007 nationally-ranked team that ultimately settled for runner-up status at state. 2007 honors include All-Arizona Team, Louisville Slugger First-Team High School All-American, and Rawlings ABCA First-Team High School All-American. He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2007 draft.

After Brophy, Garcia attended South Mountain Community College where he was an All-Conference Player and  Academic All-American both years before moving on to play at the University of Arizona. He played in the NCAA regionals for the Wildcats in 2010 and 2011, serving as team captain. In 2011, he received a bachelor of arts in Religious Studies from Arizona.
